Used by Pony Club tots to top Event Riders, including Ruth Edge, Amy Young and Julie Tew, Airowear has become a household name in Equestrian protection.

Airowear are renowned for their expertise and experience in the equestrian market and our products are quite often used as the benchmark by competitors.  Each garment is integrated with hi-tech fabrics and combined with fashion and functionality to produce the most superior body protector. Whilst we focus on every detail, we also ensure that every single garment provides the maximum protection, freedom, comfort and appearance that is required for this sport.

All of our body protectors are rigorously tested to the BETA safety standards and tested by our top riders for flexibility in movement, comfort and durability. Our extensive testing and feedback from our riders and test houses enable us to continually develop and create ever-improving equestrian sports gear.

In 1991, Airowear was the first company to manufacture body protectors conforming to the new British Equestrian Trade Standard (BETA).

girlsIn 1995 the hugely successful 'Reiver' tabard styled body protector was launched, followed in Autumn 1998 by the 'Zippa' and the 'Zippa Plus'. The Zippa Plus hit the press as a 'Breakthrough in Body Protection' for being the first complete protective jacket which offered integral shoulder protection.

In May 2000, Airowear was the first (and second!) to conform to the new European standard (EN13158:2000) for Body Protectors and BETA 2000 with their Reiver and Zippa 2000 models.

In 2001, Airowear added to its product catalogue by introducing Troxel’s equestrian riding helmets to the UK market. These helmets are designed by one of the world's foremost research and development teams, with expertise gained in the aerospace industry and critical care medicine. Troxel are renowned for introducing the very first vented equestrian riding helmets and their expertise has been utilised to develop an outstanding range of the lightest most comfortable vented head protection available.

In 2007, Airowear were the first to design a no-fuss solution for horse riders to customise and colour their Reiver body protectors with a changeable cover to wear over their body protectors. This meant riders could easily update their garments as new colours and styles came into fashion and brought an element of fun to a safety garment.

Also in 2007, Airowear received a finalist award for the North East Business Awards in March.

Airowear are the sponsors for top Event Rider Ruth Edge who won the 4-Star Event at Luhmulen in 2007. Our other sponsored riders are Amy Young and Julie Tew.

About Our Garments

Airowear produce two styles of body protector; the Reiver and the Zippa.  A huge part of our market is for leisure riders; the Reiver (a tabard fronted garment with adjustments at the shoulders and waist) has been designed as a comfortable, versatile garment and is particularly popular with children.

The Zippa, is a stylish zip fronted garment with side closures and has been designed for competition riders.  The Zippa has been especially popular with women, as the garment is darted to give a more flattering look.  The Reiver and Zippa garments offer 80 and 60 different size options respectively, as well as catering for special requests by our excellent design team with a made to measure service.

Cross country colours can be ordered in any colour choice (‘Mix ‘n’ Match your own colours).  Colour Swap is an alternative to XC colours for riders who have the Reiver style of body protector. Colour Swap is a silk-style cover for riders to customise and colour their plain body protectors. Colour Swap provides riders with inexpensive changeable covers to put over their garments as new colours and styles come into fashion. They are also flexible enough for the rider to change their covers to suit different riding disciplines, events and conditions.

Troxel helmets from Airowear offer an outstanding range of the lightest, most comfortable vented helmets in the UK. They come in a variety of styles for a simple show helmet, to endurance to show jumping. They conform to BSEN 1384:1997 approved and ASTM F1163/SEI Certified
