NEWS : REASSURANCE OVER BODY PROTECTOR REVISIONS

Published: 01/04/2009

BETA has confirmed that retailers should continue to sell body protectors conforming to EN13158/BETA 2000 following a revision (known as BETA 2009) to the standard.

Riders can also be confident that all garments meeting the current standard are safe, continue to meet the disciplines' requirements and are not about to go out-of-date. Indeed, many of the revisions to the standard - which do not affect impact absorption or areas of coverage - are already being applied by manufacturers.

Final re-tests to BETA 2000 will take place until July 2010 and the current pre-revision standard will be able to be manufactured until the middle of 2011. As newly marketed garments begin to appear with approval to the BETA 2009 revision, natural attrition will mean that BETA 2000 will eventually disappear.

BETA has also developed a new category of its body protector standard to cover carriage driving. These garments will have a shorter back length, making them suitable for sitting on a vehicle and will be denoted by a purple label with a carriage wheel logo.
