Airowear's sponsored rider; the European Young Rider Champion, Amy Young, is making final preparations to fly out to Hong Kong in preparation for the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Amy, who will be taking part in the ?Good Luck Beijing ? 10th Anniversary Cup CCI** Event? has two horses listed to compete, one of which includes Highville who partnered Amy in her triumphant gold winning performance at the European Young Rider Eventing Championships last year.
Amy, who is the youngest rider to join the team, will join two other riders to represent Great Britain at the event. The occasion is part of a series of 42 sporting events being staged over the next year to give the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games the opportunity to rehearse procedures and protocols.
County Durham based Amy says ?I am thoroughly excited about representing Great Britain and competing at another international competition which will provide me with excellent experience for the future?.
Chrissie Beatty from sponsor Airowear says ?This is the third time that Amy and Highville will represent Great Britain at international level, having taken both individual and team gold at the European Young Rider Eventing Championships in Pardubice last year, which is fantastic for raising her profile?
Recognised by Sport England as a future world class athlete and with a place on
the World Class Start programme, Amy has begun to form a catalogue of
successes securing prestigious titles such as the 2003 British Under 18
Champion and 2005 British Under 21 Champion.
Last year was certainly rewarding for Amy who finished the season as the under
21 rider with the most British Eventing points. 2007 promises to be as equally
demanding with four other horses to compete, including Sam and Linda Barr?s Baby Welton and Welton Rodrigo who were both sired by the world famous
stallion Welton Crackerjack.
Running as a CCI**, the British Equestrian Team will be analysing the whole event from the transportation and welfare of the horses through to the stabling and accommodation to ensure that maximum performance is achieved from the team?s participation in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The British team will depart for Hong Kong at the end of July to give the horses and riders approximately ten days to adjust to the extreme conditions of heat and humidity before the simulated three day event takes place during the second weekend in August.
